Cookie policy – footballbetsnz
A football betting information site needs very little technology to run, and this policy lists what it does use. Cookies are small text files kept by a browser; local and session storage entries and counting pixels behave similarly, so all of them are covered.
Which law applies
When cookies and similar tools gather personal information, the Privacy Act 2020 governs, through its information privacy principles (section 22). Collection must have a lawful purpose tied to running the site (IPP 1), and those concerned are informed of what is collected and the reason (IPP 3). Reasonable security safeguards protect the data (IPP 5), it is retained no longer than needed (IPP 9) and goes outside New Zealand only on the terms of IPP 12. Any choice offered in the banner can be altered later.
Essential files
Without these the site would not work dependably: they hold a session open, distribute load, guard forms against abuse and record the cookie choice itself. No separate consent is sought. Session files vanish when the browser closes, and the stored choice lasts at most twelve months.
Preference and analytics files
Preference files recall settings, for example the comparison table opened last. Analytics files count page views and show which pages get read, which helps improve the content. Neither group is set until a choice is made in the banner. Analysis uses shortened IP addresses, and no profile follows behaviour across different websites.
Files from other services
Embedded videos or maps from outside services may set files of their own, and that provider’s privacy rules then apply; objections go to that provider. Advertising cookies building personalised profiles are not set by footballbetsnz without a clear choice in the banner.
Changing or withdrawing a choice
A choice can be revised or withdrawn whenever wanted through the “Cookie settings” link in the footer, and withdrawal works for the future. Browsers also allow cookies to be blocked or erased in their privacy settings. Once necessary files are cleared, the banner returns and certain features may briefly stop.
Complaints
A complaint about how personal information is handled goes to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner. The privacy policy of this site explains the handling in more detail.
